Selling a restored 15.5’ 1904 Maine Wooden Flat Back Freight Canoe with two oars, trailer, and a custom canvas cover all in excellent condition.
Asking $11,200.
This 15.5’ Maine Freight Canoe was built in 1904 and restored in 2005.
In the 1950’s, the original birchbark hull covering was replaced with a vinyl membrane.
During the 2005 restoration, the solid and very substantial Oak Keel was removed, revealing the month and year (6-1904) under the bedding compound, and the vinyl covering was sanded and prepped with green marine paint.
All woodwork on the inside was refinished: the inside planking and ribs (made from Northern White Cedar), gunnels (Red Fir), and benches (Pine) were sanded back to the original wood and finished with three coats of marine varnish and Tung Oil.
The two oars have reinforced copper tips at the end of the paddles, and the oar locks are brass.
The 16’ single axle trailer was reconditioned with black rust-proof spray paint and comes with a spare tire.
Also included is a custom dark green canvas cover.
